Top 8 countries fighting child trafficking

A new report by ECPAT International—an organization that seeks to end child prostitution and trafficking—notes many countries are making significant progress in the fight against the child sex trade.
The report, “Creating Change Through Partnership,” ranks 42 countries on their efforts to combat child trafficking. (more…)
#ENDSLAVERY – Join World Vision, IJM, Polaris Project, and Safe Horizon to Tweet our Senators

Six months have passed since Congress allowed Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA) to expire, jeopardizing the centerpiece of U.S. policy to combat human trafficking. To help move this critical legislation forward, World Vision, International Justice Mission (IJM), the Polaris Project, and Safe Horizon are joining together to urge Congress to renew the TVPRA and help end slavery for the 27 million enslaved people around the world.
Our goal is to get 10 more senators to sponsor the TVPRA in order to reach a total of 50 Senate co-sponsors by April 30. (more…)

What inspired you to become a creative activist?
I don’t feel I had much of a choice- it is just the path God’s taken me on. I grew up in a family who valued showing love to everyone, especially the immigrant and the poor. I was lucky to travel a little too, and ended up majoring in cultural anthropology in college. It turned out I pretty much had free range to study issues that affected people around the globe. What really pushed me over the edge was moving to the most affluent county in the country. I live in a bubble of wealth, but very few people I know actually consider themselves rich. Seeing these two extremes co-exist- the poor/oppressed and the rich/free- drove me crazy. (more…)

Ending Malaria: One Mountain at a Time

World Malaria Day is this week, and we’ve been hearing tons of creative ideas for sacrificing $6 for a life-saving mosquito net. Some activists are accepting the challenge on a larger scale and are going to great lengths (or in this case, great heights!) to help end malaria. One of those big actions is happening this summer through a trip organized by our friends at Venture Expeditions: the 5 summits hike. A team will be summiting 5 mountains in Colorado in just 10 days, all while raising funds and awareness to help end malaria deaths by 2015.
